Use of sex sorted semen for enhancing milk production ( SP) and use of sex sorted semen for  genetic improvement of cattle          (OMBADC)

Objectives :

• Production of 90-95% female calves with high genetic merit through AI.
• Reduction of male progeny, thereby reducing burden of farmers.g
• Rationalized use of feed to productive animals.
• Improvement of herd genetics by use of semen from the proven Sire.
• Enhance the income of farmers from dairying and to encourage dairy entrepreneurship.
• Reduce the stray cattle population in the State.

Area of Operation :

The scheme will be implemented in 25 districts covering 247 blocks, except in 67 blocks covered under Odisha Mineral Bearing Areas Development Corporation (OMBADC). It is targeted to cover around 1.20 Lakh animals in these districts.

Under State Plan & OMBADC, 1,14,500 doses of Sex Sorted Semen  of high genetic merit bulls have been procured from Uttarakhand Livestock Development Board.  107016 doses have been utilized and 104887 animals are covered under this programme. 84276 farmers have been benefitted. 20000 calves have been born out of which 17825 are female calves which is 89.12% of total calves born.

1. Under State Plan 64880 doses of SSS were procured and distributed to districts. Out of which 61073 doses have been utilized covering 54660 animals.47611 farmers are benefited under this programme. 12219 calves have been born out of which 1157 are male and 11062 are female calves. The female calves born is 90.5% of the total calves born.
2. Under OMBADC 49620 doses of SSS were procured and distributed to districts. Out of which 48407 doses have been utilized covering 40698 animals. 36665 farmers are benefited. 10195 calves have been born out of which 1179 are male and 9016 are female calves. The female calves born is 88.43% of the total calves born.
