National Livestock Mission
Govt. of India-assisted National Livestock Mission carries the component of Risk Management and Insurance of the Livestock is currently under implementation, covering 30 districts of the State of Odisha with OLRDS as the State Implementing Agency. The scheme envisages management of risk and uncertainties by providing a protection mechanism to Livestock owners against any eventual loss of their animals due to death, along with demonstration of the benefits of the Livestock. The scheme extends the benefits of subsidies to livestock owners with marginal/nominal reciprocation.
For the financial year 2025-26, National Insurance Company Limited (NICL) has been awarded as the Insurer for livestock with Salasar & HIBL as intermediary. A total number of 96227 animals (48898 Large animals and 47329 Small animals) were insured under NLM. Premium was set to 2.65% of the insured value, with 15% farmers’ share and 85% Govt share contribution
Go-Sampad Bima Yojana
For the year 2025-26, National Insurance Company Limited (NICL) has been awarded as the Insurer for livestock with Salasar & HIBL as intermediary for the State Plan scheme of Go Sampad Bima Yojana. Premium was set to 2.65% of the insured value, with 15% farmers’ share and 85% Govt share contribution. Under this scheme, Buffalo Entrepreneurship Development Scheme (BEDS) 2912, Go Palan Yojana (GPY) 19603, Female Calf Rearing Scheme (FCRS) 18600, and Non Schematic 101652 (Total – 142767) animals were insured.
A total of 71047 farmers benefited under both schemes
For the year 2026-27, United India Insurance Company (UIIC) has been selected to perform the Livestock Insurance with Salasar, HIBL & Saferisk as the intermediaries. For this year, 85,300 milch animals are targeted to be insured. The period of Insurance will come to effect from 01.04.2026 to 31.03.2027
