Breed Utility and Special Qualities

  1. Superior Draft Power

The bullocks are the stars of the field. Known for their endurance and working efficiency, they are highly valued for plowing and heavy agricultural operations in rugged terrains.

  1. Sustainable Milk Production

While primarily a draft breed, they produce a moderate quantity of milk. This high-quality milk is a vital source of nutrition for household consumption in rural families.

  1. Agricultural By-products

These animals support Circular Farming:

  • Organic Manure: Dung is used extensively to maintain soil fertility.
  • Fuel: Dried dung cakes serve as a primary energy source for cooking.
  1. Climate Resilience

These cattle are “Hardy”—meaning they have a natural resistance to local diseases and can thrive in the specific heat and humidity of the Nuapada region with minimal external inputs.

 Reproductive Traits

  • Age at Maturity: 30–32 months.
  • Adaptability: High survival rate in low-input traditional rearing systems.

Why This Breed Matters

This breed is more than just livestock; it is a biological heritage. By supporting agriculture, providing dairy, and enabling sustainable organic farming, it remains the most critical asset for rural livelihoods in Nuapada.
