Risk Management & Livestock Insurance under NLM

Govt. of India assisted National Livestock Mission carries the component of Risk Management and Insurance of the Livestock is currently under implementation, covering 30 districts of the State of Odisha with OLRDS as the State Implementing Agency. The scheme envisages management of risk and uncertainties by providing a protection mechanism to Livestock owners against any eventual loss of their animals due to death, along with demonstration of the benefits of the Livestock. The scheme extends the benefits of subsidies to livestock owners with marginal/nominal reciprocation.

For the financial year 2025-26, National Insurance Company Limited (NICL) has been awarded as the Insurer for livestock with Salasar & HIBL as intermediary. A total number of 96227 animals (48898 Large animals and 47329 Small animals) were insured under NLM. Premium was set to 2.65% of the insured value, with 15% farmers’ share and 85% Govt share contribution.
