
The Society organizes various training programmes on bovine breeding to update the knowledge of AI workers, farmers and professionals under the assistance of Central and State plan schemes. Three Livestock Inspector training Institute (LITCs) namely Balangir, Bhanjanagar and Chipilima & Veterinary Ofiicers Training Institute (VOTI) Bhubaneswar have been strengthened to impart training to paravets and vets. One Regional Training Institute at Balasore has been established under RGM 2017-18.
Society provides information through electronic media by developing the website and facebook page of OLRDS. The farmers will have access to information in terms of knowledge to increase the production.
SKILL DEVELOPMENT AND TRAININGS UNDER RASTRIYA GOKUL MISSION
Implementation and Handling of Sex Sorted Semen
Exposure visit to reputed training institutes/organizations help the field veterinarians to gather practical experience on modern breeding practices. As ULDB, Dehradun is the premiere institute having a Frozen Semen Station producing both conventional and sex sorted semen so the veterinarians will have a practical exposure on the process of production and utility in the field.
During the year 2025-26, 4 batches with 80 Veterinarians (20 participants / batch) have undergone the exposure visit of 4 days to ULDB Dehradun towards “Handling and field application of Sex Sorted Semen. The exposure is a step towards capacity building in Modern Dairy Management, Advance Breeding Technology, by visiting organized dairy farms/progressive farmers etc.
Scientific Goat Breeding
As Odisha has adopted advanced Scientific Breeding technology, Goat breeding for higher productivity in 30 districts of the state hence there is a need for capacity building regarding genetic improvement and conservation of important genetic traits.
40 field veterinary officers in 2 batches of Veterinarians (20 participants / batch) and 4 batches of Paravets (20 participants / batch) have undergone 3 days exposure visit to ICAR-CIRG, Makhdoom, Mathura towards Scientific Goat Breeding. The participants were imparted with latest knowledge and Skill up-gradation on Semen Freezing, Artificial Insemination, Oestrus Synchronization, Health Management and Ultrasonography in goats for up gradation of local breeds and enhancement of productivity for sustainable development.
Moreover, 2 batches of Veterinarians (20 participants / batch) and 2 batches of Paravets (20 participants / batch) have undergone training on Oestrus Synchronization and Artificial Insemination in Goats at USWDB, Uttarakhand.
Infertility Diagnosis and Management in Dairy animals
A total number of 20 Veterinarians have undergone the training at IVRI Bareilly on Infertility Diagnosis and Management in Dairy animals. The participants were trained on modern diagnostics in dairy animals related to breeding.
Refresher Course on Livestock Healthcare and Artificial Insemination
Two batches of Paravets (25 participants / batch) have undergone a 5-day training programme at IVRI-Bareilly on Livestock Healthcare and Artificial Insemination.
Characterization & Conservation of Native Animal Genetic Resources
One batch of 15 participants visited ICAR-NBAGR, Karnal for the purpose of training on Characterization & Conservation of Native Animal Genetic Resources and making Odisha Non-Descript cattle Free State in the month of August
Training on Bharat Pashudhan application of National Digital Livestock Mission
All the 30 additional district admins of NDLM, 2 Vets from FSB, Cuttack, 1 Vet from ADRI & 2 Vets from OLRDS and 2 IT personnel of OLRDS were trained by the IT officers of NDLM, Anand, Gujarat at VOTI, Laxmisagar, Bhubaneswar, regarding operation of Bharat Pashudhan portal of National Digital Livestock Mission.
