Transforming India’s Dairy Landscape: The National Milk Recording Programme (NMRP)

Precision Breeding. Data-Driven Growth. Empowered Farmers.

Approved by the 14th National Steering Committee under the Rashtriya Gokul Mission (RGM), the NMRP (2023-24 to 2025-26) is a landmark initiative to digitize and elevate bovine productivity across India.

Our Vision

We are identifying India’s most superior germplasm to ensure a future of high-yielding, genetically elite livestock. Through systematic recording and the promotion of High Genetic Merit (HGM) bulls, we are turning traditional farming into a precision science.

The major objectives of NMRP are:

  • To locate superior germplasm in breeding tracts / milk pockets
  • To introduce systematic milk recording and promote breeding with HGM bulls
  • To calculate genetic gain among bovines
  • To collect and publish production and breeding records of registered animals
  • To create awareness among farmers and improve their income

Innovative Implementation

The National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) serves as the lead Implementing Agency (IA), partnering with the Odisha Livestock Resources Development Society (OLRD) to bring this mission to the ground.

  • Smart Tech: GPS-enabled Smart Weighing Scales (SWS) transmit data directly to the Bharat Pashudhan App.
  • Comprehensive Data: Real-time tracking of milk yield, reproduction, disease incidence, and feeding patterns.
  • Localized Focus: Starting with the Binjharpuri cattle in Jajpur, followed by the iconic Chilika buffalo.

“Improving productivity, enhancing genetic gain, and doubling farmer income through data integrity.”
