Use of sex sorted semen for enhancing milk production and genetic improvement of cattle
Objectives :
- To produce near about 90-95 % female calves with high genetic merit through AI by using sex sorted semen.
- Reduction of male progeny, thereby reducing burden of farmers.
- Rationalization use of feed & fodder to the productive stock
- Improvement of herd genetics by use of semen from proven sire
- To improve the livelihoods of the poor Mining Affected communities especially belonging to ST & SC category in OMBADC Area & landless, marginal farmers & low income groups in the state.
- To improve the nutrition of the people by production of milk.
- To improve the income of the farmers in a rapid way.
- To reduce the stray animals causing public nuisance.
- To improve the herd productivity in a rapid way within short time through Gir, Sahiwal, Jersey, HF,CB & Red Sindhi SSS.
Area of Operation :
The scheme will be implemented in 25 districts covering 247 blocks, except in 67 blocks covered under Odisha Mineral Bearing Areas Development Corporation (OMBADC) where the Sex Sorted Semen is supplied free of cost to the farmers out of the OMBADC fund. It is targeted to cover around 1.20 Lakh animals in these districts .
Under State Plan & OMBADC, 1,14,500 doses of Sex Sorted Semen of high genetic merit bulls have been procured from Uttarakhand Livestock Development Board. 114162 doses have been utilized and 100540 animals are covered under this programme. 89387 farmers have been benefitted. 40091 calves have been born out of which 37230 are female calves which is 92.86% of total calves born.
- Under State Plan 64880 doses of SSS were procured and distributed to districts. Out of which 64584 doses have been utilized covering 58274 animals. 51464 farmers are benefited under this programme. 16437 calves have been born out of which 14527 are male and 14985 are female calves. The female calves born is 91.17% of the total calves born.
- Under OMBADC 49620 doses of SSS were procured and distributed to districts. Out of which 49578 doses have been utilized covering 42266 animals. 37923 farmers are benefited.23654 calves have been born out of which 1409 are male and 22245 are female calves. The female calves born is 94.04% of the total calves born.
